Thomas Dold

Thomas Dold ( born September 10, 1984 in Wolfach, Baden- Württemberg ) is a German athlete who is primarily known as a stair runner. He also stated in his career already on some world records in running backwards. He is a member of the German national team in mountain running.

Dold scored successes in prestigious staircase in the world, the Empire State Building Run -Up in New York. Already in his first participation in 2005, he was able to take second place there after a photo finish behind Rudolf Berger riding. In the following year he won the competition for the first time, beating last year's winner. In his third appearance at the flight of stairs in the former tallest building in the world Dold successfully defended his title on February 6, 2007. In February 2008, he completed the course in a personal best of 10:08 minutes, won for the third time in a row and thus created a hat-trick, but he was able to not jeopardize the record of Australian Paul Crake of 9:33 min. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 could Dold win the run- up and is thus six times in a row winner of the event. On 15 June 2008 Thomas Dold won the staircase over 2046 steps to the 91st floor of the Taipei 101, which was the tallest skyscraper in the world at this time. He needed to 10:53 min. He repeated this success in 2009, 2010, he was third, in 2011, but again first. Twice in a row, 2009 and 2010, he won the Sydney Tower Run -Up. He also repeated his victories in Berlin at Sky Run and the Vertical Sprint Milan in the Pirelli Tower. All five races in 2010 are part of the Vertical World Circuit 2010. As a secret of his success Dold referred to the use of appropriate support stockings carefully.

On August 3, 2013, has "World Summit Hotel China" in Beijing 330 vertical meters down to 9:55 min in, and won the 1st place.

Also a world leader Thomas Dold heard in backward running, the so-called retro running. His greatest achievement was winning each of two world championship titles in 2006 in Rotkreuz / Switzerland and 2008 in Pietrasanta / Italy.
