Thomas Ebrill

Thomas Ebrill (also Abrill ) was a British merchant, who worked with the ship Minerva, Star and Amphitrite in the Pacific from 1826 to 1842.

Life

In 1820 he lived in Tahiti for some time. Together with his brother Samuel Pinder Henry, he passed on a sugar cane plantation. His numerous trade and transport journeys have taken him to a period of 25 years throughout Ostpolynesien, but in addition also to Sydney and Valparaíso. 1832 to 1839 he ran pearl fishing on the Gambier Islands, for which he used Polynesian divers from Rapa. In 1839 he was the French Captain Laplace, who was stranded on the reef in front of Tahiti, to assist you.

After Ebrill had already in 1826 brought the first cargo sandalwood to Sydney, he took to 1841/42 this trade again. On November 1, 1842, he fell with his crew at the Isle of Pines, New Caledonia, an attack of Melanesians victim; his ship was looted and burned.
