Thomas Ender

Thomas Ender ( born November 3, 1793 in Vienna, † September 28, 1875 ) was an Austrian landscape painter and watercolorist.

Life

Ender Thomas was the son of Johann Ender laggard and twin brother of the history painter Johann Nepomuk Ender in the former suburbs of Vienna Spittelberg No. 123 ( today Faßziehergasse 6) born. Together with his brother, he entered the Vienna Academy in 1806, where he initially at Hubert Maurer studied the history painting, but then in 1810 moved to Lawrence Janscha in the landscape class. After the death Janschas 1812 Joseph Mößmer became his teacher. Already in 1810 Ender had won the first Academy Award for landscape drawing.

After some study trips Thomas Ender in 1817 awarded the by the emperor Great Painters Prize for landscape painting. Prince Clemens Metternich acquired the prize-winning image and promoted the artist from then. So he allowed him to participate in 1817 at the Austrian expedition to Brazil, during the final anfertigte over 700 drawings and watercolors. After returning Metternich took him to Rome, where Ender was allowed to stay until 1823 as imperial pensioner. From 1823 was finished on behalf of Metternich in the Salzkammergut worked, and in 1824 a member of the Vienna Academy. In 1826 he made ​​a study trip to Paris. In 1828 he was appointed court painter of Archduke Johann and participated in the Orient and Südrusslandreise 1837, which led him to Constantinople Opel and Greece. Then Ender was from 1837 to 1851 professor at the Vienna Academy and created several landscape series, which were often engraved by English artists in steel.

1845 Ender was appointed imperial councilor and entered 1851 in retirement. It was in 1853 awarded the Franz -Joseph- Orden and 1854 he received the right of citizenship. 1855 and 1857 Ender stepped again travel to Italy.

Ender Thomas was married to Theresa Arvay since 1832 and was buried after his death on September 30, 1875 at Vienna's Central Cemetery. 1922 named to the Endergasse facility in Vienna after the family of painters finished.

Performance
