Thomas Ernst

Thomas " Gustl " Ernst ( born December 23, 1967 in Wiesbaden ) is a former German football player.

Career

The Wiesbaden learned to play football at FV Biebrich 02 His professional career began in 1987 at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he was the second man between the posts for many years, including behind Uli Stein. Only after the sacking of Uli Stein 1994, he was allowed in the 1993/94 season four will contest for Eintracht Frankfurt in succession. After the rise of FSV Frankfurt 1994, he played a season in the 2nd Bundesliga. After re- descent of the FSV, he moved to VfL Bochum, where he again was number two behind Uwe Gospodarek. Only in the 1998/99 season he could play nearly a season as a regular keeper. In 2000 he went for three years as a second goalkeeper behind Timo Hildebrand to VfB Stuttgart. In 2003, he joined the 1st FC Kaiserslautern; where he was also a reserve goalkeeper until 2004 goalkeeper Tim Wiese drew upon a torn ACL. Thomas Ernst then got the remaining games in goal for the Red Devils and proven to be a strong goalkeeper. In the season 2005/ 06 he was surprising to start again the number two behind Jürgen Macho, at the regular place but fought back on the 11th match day, before he had to leave him on 14 Matchday because of an injury back to Jurgen Macho.

After the 2005/ 06 season Ernst ended his professional career.

End of career

In summer 2006, Ernst was responsible for the goalkeepers of the German national women as goalkeeper coach on a fee basis.

From July 2007 to June 2008 was Thomas Ernst team manager for the regional division FSV Frankfurt. After that, he was on 1 July 2008 a new board member at VfL Bochum. He oversaw the board at sports and media. His contract ran until the end of 2011, the Supervisory Board in June 2011, but separated from him.
