Thomas Feichtner

Thomas Feichtner ( * 1970 in Vitória / Brazil) is an Austrian industrial designer.

Life

Thomas Feichtner was born in 1970 as son of Austrian parents in Vitória. After leaving school in Linz and at the Waldorf School in Dusseldorf he graduated from 1990 to 1995 studying industrial design at the School of Art and Industrial Design Linz, where he also taught from 2002 to 2005 itself. 1997 Thomas Feichtner started his own design studio and initially designed sporting goods and capital goods. From 2005 he began increasingly Products for Austrian manufacturers and traditional craft shops as well as experimental and unique pieces for exhibitions on design. Between 2001 and 2009 he was a partner in a visual communication agency in Linz and Vienna, from whom he separated in 2009. Since 2009, Thomas Feichtner is a professor of industrial design at the Muthesius Academy of Kiel. Together with his wife Simone Feichtner and his son Ferdinand, born in 2008, he lives in Vienna.

Work

Already during his studies designed Thomas Feichtner numerous products for the Austrian sports industry, such as skateboards and snowboards for heavy tools or ski bindings for Tyrolia and fishermen. Later ski for Head and Blizzard. In the field of visual communication Thomas Feichtner worked for companies such as Swarovski, adidas eyewear, Linz09 European Capital of Culture or the British- Israeli designer Ron Arad. After his early success as an industrial designer Thomas Feichtner dedicated since 2005 to the experimental product design and designed for traditional manufacturers like J & L Lobmeyr, Augarten Porcelain Manufactory, Carl Mertens ( cutlery factory ), New Vienna Workshop, Vienna Silbermanufactur and trunk and realized freelance projects in cooperation with Vitra and FSB. His works were included in various design collections, such as the collection of the MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art.
