Thomas Häberli

Thomas Häberli ( born April 11, 1974 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss football manager and former football player, who played most recently at BSC Young Boys. Since 2009 he is a coach.

Career as a player

Association

At age 20 he broke his contract with Lausanne, a supposed herniation was diagnosed and Häberli only played in the first league. Six years later and redeemed by the back pain he found pleasure in life as a professional. He called automatically at SC Kriens and asked for a trial and was finally taken. The Lucerne walked in front of his YB- commitment across to have become sedentary, but seems to be the crowd favorite in Bern ( to Schützenmatt times among other FC Basel) on Swiss football map. In the Transferwut his club " Häbi " one of the few Verbleibsel from the Neufeld era of the Bernese clubs remained. Most recently, he was even the senior players in the Axpo Super League. In the 2007 /08 season Häberli scored 18 goals and was the second highest scorer in the league. He was second only to teammate Hakan Yakin.

As the only YB- players in the 110-year history of the club Thomas Häberli received a farewell game after he up to the Swiss Vice Master Happy mitmachte in nine years with the club from almost relegation to the 1st League ( third-highest division).

National

In 2004 he completed his first and only match for the national team against the team from the Faroe Islands. For the EURO 2008 some media and fans have called for inclusion Häberlis the squad at the Nati, as the striker shot in the twilight of his career to the second place scorer in the Super League. As Blaise Nkufo injured in the preparations for the EURO, national coach Kobi Kuhn decided to include in the provisional Häberli EM squad. On 27 May 2008, in the ( unofficial ) Test match against the U21 FC Lugano, Thomas Häberli scored his first goal for the national team. However, Kobi Kuhn was the next day announced that Häberli not allowed to attend the Euro 2008.

Häberli anniversary

In favor of the 110th birthday of the Berne Young Boys played the Swiss rock band Zürich West, under the pseudonym "The Häberlis ". Thus they honored Thomas Häberli, the number 15 at YB, for his many years of loyalty to YB, so YB fan and band leader Kuno Lauener.

Career as a coach

His first as a coach ( 2009/ 2010) was the third division FC Pearl Buchenrain from the canton of Lucerne. With this team he reached the same promotion to the second division. In the season 2010/2011 he took over the Trainierfunktion the U-18 Youth Team of the BSC Young Boys. On 1 July 2013, took over FC Basel U -21 team as the successor of Carlos Bernegger.

Private

He has two daughters with his wife and lives with them in Ballwil next to the farm of his parents in a family whose plans he himself anfertigte.
