Thomas J. D. Fuller

Thomas James Duncan Fuller ( born March 17, 1808 in Hardwick, Caledonia County, Vermont, † February 13, 1876 in Upperville, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1849 and 1857 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Fuller attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he started in Calais ( Maine) to work his new profession. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party.

1848 Fuller was in the sixth electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on March 4, 1849, the successor of Israel Washburn. After three re- elections, he was able to complete up to March 3, 1857 four legislative sessions in Congress, who were overshadowed by rising tensions in the run-up to the Civil War. From 1853 to 1855 Thomas Fuller was Chairman of the Trade Committee.

In 1856, Fuller gave up another candidacy. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, he was appointed by President James Buchanan for the second auditor in the Ministry of Finance. This post he held 1857-1861. During the following years until his death Fuller worked as a lawyer. He negotiated among other cases before the Supreme Court in Washington. Thomas Fuller died on February 13, 1876 during a visit to his son in Virginia. He was buried in Washington.
