Thomas Lang

Thomas Lang (* August 5, 1967 in Vienna) is an Austrian drummer.

Thomas Lang began playing drums at the age of four years. After some time, private lessons, he studied percussion at the Conservatory of Vienna, among others, Walter Grassmann, which brought him closer to the big band style. From 1995 to 2005 he has recorded and produced over 250 albums and three DVDs ( Ultimate Drum, Creative Control and Creative Coordination & Advanced Foot Technique). 2006 saw his second solo CD "Something alongthoselines ", which he recorded over a period of 4 years in London. In 1996, his first solo CD "Mediator " appeared, in which he, inter alia, has worked with Falco, Mike Majzen and Conrad Schrenk.

He has played at First Floor, Falco, Peter Gabriel, Nik Kershaw, Asia, Gianna Nannini, Paper Moon, Sugababes, Robbie Williams and Bonnie Tyler. In the field of jazz, he worked with the Vienna Art Orchestra ("A Centenary Journey," 2000) and "Obsession", as well as with the groups of Wolfgang Schalk and Stella Jones.

As one of seven drummers, he was charged in October 2010 by the band Dream Theater to audition to find a replacement for Mike Portnoy, who left the band in September 2010. On the bonus DVD of the 2011 published A Dramatic Turn of Events of the film about the rehearsals and auditions is included.

Thomas Lang plays since 2010 DW Drums Collector's Series with 9000 hardware. Previously, he played for the resident in Bad Berleburg - company Sonor.

Lang plays alongside drums and piano, bass and guitar. He currently lives in Los Angeles, USA.
