Thomas McKissock

Thomas McKissock ( born April 17, 1790 in Montgomery, New York, † June 26, 1866 in St. Andrews, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1849 and 1851 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas McKissock was born about seven years after the end of the Revolutionary War in Montgomery. He studied medicine and law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Newburgh. In 1847 he was appointed puisne Justice at the New York Supreme Court. Politically he belonged to the Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1848 for the 31 Congress McKissock was the ninth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Daniel B. St. John on March 4, 1849. In 1850 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after March 3, 1851 the Congress of. He died on 26 June 1866 in St. Andrews in Orange County. His body was buried in the Oldtown Cemetery in Newburgh.
