Thomas Pelly

Thomas Minor Pelly ( born August 22, 1902 in Seattle, Washington, † November 21, 1973 in Ojai, California ) was an American politician. Between 1953 and 1973 he represented the State of Washington in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Pelly attended the common schools and the University School in Victoria in the Canadian province of British Columbia. After that, he was still enrolled at the Hoosac School in upstate New York. He then worked 1921-1930 in the real estate and banking industry and then as a clerk in a printing plant.

Politically, Pelly member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1952 he was the first electoral district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Hugh Mitchell on January 3, 1953. After nine elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1973 ten contiguous legislatures. In this time were, among others, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and the height of the Cold War.

For health reasons, Thomas Pelly renounced in 1972 to another candidacy. He died on 21 November 1973 at Ojai, California, less than a year after the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives.
