Thomas S. Flood

Thomas Schmeck Flood ( born April 12, 1844 in Lodi, New York, † October 28, 1908 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Schmeck Flood was born about two years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War in Seneca County. He attended community schools and Elmira Free Academy. He then studied medicine, but never practiced. Flood then ran a drug business. He moved to Pennsylvania and founded the Town of DuBois. He was there the first postmaster. Later he returned to Elmira, where he sat in 1882 and 1883 in the Board of Aldermen. Flood held in 1884 and 1885, the post of president of the Chemung County Agricultural Society. He was engaged in farming and as a lumberjack. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1886, for the 50th Congress Flood was the 28th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Arnot Jr. on March 4, 1887. He was re-elected once. Since he gave up for reelection in 1888, he retired after March 3, 1891 from the Congress. During his time Congress he chaired the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings ( 51st Annual Meeting ).

After his conference time he worked in the real estate business. He died on October 28, 1908 during a visit to Pittsburgh. His body was then interred in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
