Thomas Sautner

Thomas Sautner ( born April 24, 1970 in Gmünd ) is an Austrian writer.

Life and literary work

Thomas Sautner grew up in Lower Austria's Waldviertel near the Czech border, and after studying political science and contemporary history in Vienna as a journalist. 2006 his first novel Fuchs Earth playing in the forest district and is about the Jenischen appeared: the exclusion and persecution of this moving people Sautner is a grown out of deep love of nature wisdom over.

In his 2007 published novel milk flower Sautner shifts the perspective to the settled population of the Waldviertel: While playing in the 1950 plot to reveal depths of infamy and violence that threaten the maligned as a village idiot Jacob especially. He finds support only from his supposed sister Silvia and from the traveling community, which are tolerated in the village for the duration of winter work.

With his two subsequent novels foreign country and the happiness makers Sautner leaves the forest district and moves to the big city. In the published 2010 dystopia foreign country, the protagonists give their freedom because their safety and comfort is promised in return: they read Willig be implanted computer chips, although they thus lose control over their lives. In the satirical novel The Luck makers, published in 2012, it is lucky enough to do anything for the people are ready: A dreamy Insurance employee who prefers to philosophize than working, to develop a concept that every insurance client is guaranteed personal happiness.

With his fifth book Waldviertel stone soft versa Sautner 2013 back to his homeland. The mixture of legends, anecdotes, stories, recipes and essays about the Waldviertel region, its history and its typical " ingredients " gives the personal portrait of a region that would have liked reviled as " cold quarters ," but no one let cold.
