Thomas Schäuble

Thomas Schäuble ( born July 23, 1948 in Hornberg, † January 3, 2013 in Gaggenau ) was a German lawyer, politician of the CDU and managers.

Life

Family

Thomas Schäuble came in 1948 as the youngest of three sons of the CDU politician Karl Schäuble ( 1907-2000 ), who was from 1947 to 1952 deputy in the parliament of Baden, and his wife Gertrud, born Göhring, to the world. He was married and had three children. His widow is Brigitte since 2007 Mayor ( 1 councilor ) of the city of Gaggenau. His brother is CDU politician and current Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble.

Professional and political career

After graduation in 1967 at the Gymnasium in Hausach, now Robert - Gerwig -Gymnasium, Thomas Schäuble studied law and political science, first at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, and later at the University of Berlin. After his graduation he became a judge at the Administrative Court of Freiburg.

In 1984 he moved into politics and was elected mayor of Gaggenau. From 1988 to 2004, Thomas Schäuble was a member of the Landtag of Baden- Württemberg for the electoral district of Rastatt. In 1991 he became Minister of Transport, 1992 Minister of Justice and Minister of the Interior in 1996, at the same time in October / November 1998 Minister of Environment and Transport. From 1999 he was chairman of the Federal Advisory Committee on Domestic Policy of the federal CDU, thus also an advisory member of the CDU Federal Committee.

In 2004 he resigned from his ministerial office, and was sole director of state-owned Baden State Rothaus.

In July 2012, Schäuble suffered on a hike in the Black Forest a heart attack and was in a vegetative state since then. Due to his severe illness of the Supervisory Board was made on 6 September 2012, the former Supervisory Board member Gerhard Stratthaus, ex-Finance Minister of Baden-Württemberg, as an interim Board until the end of 2012. Schäuble died on January 3, 2013 from the effects of the infarction.
