Thomas Sieverts

Thomas Sieverts ( born June 8, 1934 in Hamburg ) is a German architect and urban planner.

Life

After graduation Sieverts studied architecture in Stuttgart, Liverpool and Berlin. After successfully completing his studies in 1962 Sieverts worked for two years as an assistant at the Technical University of Berlin. At the end of these two years Sieverts called the Free Planning Group Berlin ( FPB ) to life. From 1967 Sieverts taught architecture at the University of Fine Arts Berlin, Harvard University and the Technical University of Darmstadt. In 1978, Sieverts his own design office, which extended in 2000 and in SKAT Architects and urban planners has been renamed. 1995 Sievert worked as a research scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin spearheaded the concept of interim city. In the same year it also the German Urban Development Prize was awarded in 2003 he was the Association of German Architects ( BDA) for its commitment to the overall project of the Bochum Westpark excellent .. Since 2006 he has been curator of the Carl Richard Montag Support Foundation. 2007 Sieverts was a member of the architecture section of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. The Technical University of Braunschweig in 2010 awarded him an honorary doctorate ( Dr. -Ing. Eh).

On November 4, 2013 - the 144th birthday of Fritz Schumacher - Thomas Sieverts was awarded the Hall of Hamburg City Hall with the Fritz Schumacher Prize of the Hamburg Senate. The contract awarded to architects and town planners since 2007, every three years by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg award recognizes Sieverts ' achievements in the field of urban and yet reminiscent of Fritz Schumacher's of paramount importance to the architecture, and urban development.

Sieverts now lives and works in Bonn.
