Thônex is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland.

Geography

It is located south-east of Geneva, on the French border, which is formed here by the river Foron. The A411, a branch of the French motorway A40, among others, Aix -les- Bains ( A41 ) ends in Thônex.

The neighboring municipalities are Puplinge, Choulex, Vandœuvres, Chêne -Bourg, Conches, Veyrier and Ambilly and Gaillard in France.

Economy

Thônex is the seat of the Rolex watch factory and the crayon factory Caran d' Ache, both world-famous Swiss brands.

History

The first mention of Thônex dates from 1225 Tonnay al. 1816 Thônex by the Treaty of Turin from the Kingdom of Sardinia to Geneva.

Twinning

Since 1972 Thônex maintains with the French Graveson ( Bouches -du- Rhône), a town twinning. Since 1973, exchanges of various kinds between the two communities are held regularly.
