Thorir Hergeirsson

Þórir Hergeirsson (* April 27, 1964 in Selfoss, Iceland ) is an Icelandic handball coach who currently coaches the Norwegian women's national team.

Hergeirsson came to Norway in 1986 to study at the NIH ( Norges idrettshøgskole ). In Norway, his first coaching position was the junior team of Fredensborg / ski. Then he coached from 1989 to 1994, the men's team of Elverum Håndball and then took over for two years as coach of the women's team Gjerpen Håndball. In 1999, he coached Nærbø IL.

Hergeirsson trained between 1994 and 2001 the female offspring of the Norwegian national team. Subsequently, he was assistant coach of the Norwegian women's national team, which was coached by Marit Breivik. In April 2009 he joined the successor of Breivik. Norway won the 2010 European Championship under his management, the 2011 World Cup and 2012 Olympic Games.
