Thrasybulus of Syracuse

Thrasybulus ( † after 467 BC, probably in Locri ) was from the family of Deinomeniden in the 5th century BC tyrant of Syracuse for a short time.

Thrasybulus was a brother of Gelon and Hieron. After the death of his brother Hiero 467/466 BC, he was tyrant of Syracuse. In the year 466 BC, however, he was expelled due to inability of the population of Syracuse, who now introduced a democratic form of government. Thus ended the era of " elders tyranny " of Syracuse. He went into exile in Locri in Italy, where he probably died.
