Three tooth - puffer ( Triodon macropterus )

The three- toothed puffer ( Triodon macropterus ) or abdomen bag puffer fish is placed in the monotypic family Triodonthidae. He lives near the coast in the tropical Indo-Pacific from East Africa to the Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga at depths of 50 to 300 meters.

Features

His jaws are set with three teeth. Dorsal and anal fin have eleven fin rays, deeply forked tail fin of the twelve. Most specimens from Indonesia to Japan have a small dorsal fin with one or two hard jets. Ribs are in contrast to the puffer fish ( Tetraodontidae ) available. The three- toothed puffer is up to 54 inches long.

In addition to living today is a fossil species, Triodon antiquus known from the Eocene.
