Thriae

The Thrien (Greek Thriai Θριαί, lat Thriae ) were in Greek mythology, three virgin, winged Mountain - nymphs who lived on Mount Parnassus and the art of divination using small pebbles (Greek thriai θριαί ) invented, which were thrown into an urn. Have they been fed with sweet honey, they spoke the truth, otherwise they prophesied falsely. They should have passed on this art to Apollo as she teased him. After the first Homeric Hymn to Hermes gave Apollo this Prophesy art and the patronage of the Thrien to Hermes on. The art of the oracle stones was practiced among others in the sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi. Also the Thriambos, a song or dance from the cult of Dionysus is etymologically traced back to the Thrien.
