Thuringian Railway Company

The Thuringian Railway Company was a 1844-1886 existing railway company for the construction of railway lines in the Thuringian States.

History

At founded in Erfurt in 1844 Thuringian Railway Company, the Kingdom of Prussia, the Grand Duchy of Saxe -Weimar and the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha -Altenburg were from the beginning to a quarter of the share capital involved. Later, Sachsen- Meiningen, Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt, Schwarzburg- Sondershausen, Reuss jL, and also the city of Mühlhausen as well as city and county Langensalza were added.

The first construction project was the 189 km long Thuringian railway, which still today very important east -west connection Halle- Gerstungen built in sections and put into operation:

  • On June 6, 1846 by Hall to Weissenfels;
  • On December 19, 1846 Weimar was reached,
  • On April 1, 1847 Erfurt,
  • On May 10, 1847 Gotha,
  • On June 24, 1847 Eisenach and
  • On September 25, 1849 Gerstungen where the " Hessian Elector Friedrich -Wilhelms- Northern Railway " joined in Kassel.

In the following years, the network with the following routes expanded, reaching a total length of 505 kilometers:

  • March 22, 1856 Leipzig - Markranstadt - Großkorbetha, 32 km
  • February 9th / March 19, 1859 White Rock - Zeitz - Gera, 60 km
  • October 1, 1864 rail freight Erfurt - Ilversgehofen, 4 km
  • May 16, 1867 Neudietendorf - Arnstadt, 10 km
  • April 11, 1870 Gotha - Mühlhausen, 40 km
  • October 3, 1870 Mulhouse - Leinefelde, 27 km
  • December 20, 1871 Gera - Saalfeld - Eichicht, 77 km
  • October 20, 1873 Leipzig -Leutzsch - Zeitz, 38 km
  • August 6, 1879 Arnstadt - Ilmenau, 27 km

The Thuringian Railway was involved from 1858 to 1875 on the Werra Railway Company and also led the operation of the Gotha - Ohrdrufer Railway Company, which was launched on 8 May 1876.

Due to the importance of the railway lines in the Thuringian Railway Company, the Prussian state sought to complete acquisition, took over the operation and administration on January 1, 1882 and was on July 1, 1886 owners.
