Thymelicus hamza

Thymelicus hamza is a butterfly of the family of Skipper ( Hesperiidae ).

Features

The forewing length is eleven to 13 millimeters. Added together, similar to the butterfly the Mattscheckigen brown Dickkopffalter. The top is bright reddish brown. The forewings are darker in the cell and its surroundings a little brighter and the Postdiskalregion. Also fragrance shed streaks are seen. The underside is bright yellow -brown with a gray area between the two cores and seven on the hind wings. In the female the top in the Diskalregion is a little brighter.

Geographic occurrence and habitat

Thymelicus hamza is distributed in North Africa from Morocco to Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. The moth is found in vegetation -rich grasslands, cliffs and gorges of about 500 to 2400 meters. The species is widespread, but is only very locally before.

Way of life

The moths fly from May to late June in a generation.

System

The species was described in 1876 by Charles Oberthuer under the name Hesperia hamza first time scientifically. The type locality is located in Oran ( Algeria). The species is divided by some authors into two subspecies:

  • Thymelicus hamza hamza, the Nominatunterart in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia
  • Thymelicus hamza novissima Turati, 1921, Libya
