Thyrohyoid muscle

The muscle thyrohyoid ( " thyroid cartilage - hyoid muscle ", formerly musculus thyreohyoideus ) is a paired narrow striated muscle of the oblique line ( oblique line ) the thyroid cartilage ( cartilage thyroid ) pulls the larynx to the great horn of the hyoid bone. Functionally, it is the continuation of the sternum of next musculus sternothyroideus.

The thyrohyoid muscle belongs to the infrahyoid muscles ( muscles infrahyale ). He draws the hyoid bone downwards and is therefore involved in the act of swallowing. The innervation is via the ramus superior thyrohyoid the radix of the ansa cervicalis profunda, a nerve loop of the neck braid.
