The nuclear power plant Tianwan (Chinese田湾 核电站/田湾 核电站, Pinyin Tianwan Hédiànzhàn ) (formerly Lianyungang nuclear power plant ) is the largest nuclear power station in the People's Republic of China and is located on the Yellow Sea, approximately 30 kilometers east of the city of Lianyungang. It involves a Russian- Chinese joint project.

The nuclear power plant consists of two units, each with 1,000 MW of electric power. The first block is in operation since 2006, the second block since August 2007.

History

At the site, a total of eight units will be built. The plan consists of three phases. Phase 1 and 2, two reactors are built. In phase 3 to four reactors to be built. Phase 1 ended in 2006/7 with the completion of the two reactors. The two reactors Phase 2 (as of 2012) under construction. The Fukushima nuclear disaster (since March 2011) made the population aware that nuclear power plants on the coast are not tsunami -safe. Whether the remaining four are yet to be built seems doubtful to Fukushima (2012 ).

The start of Phase 1 of 3 was the start of construction for the reactor Tianwan -1 was on 20 October 1999, for the second block on 20 October 2000. Block 1 was first critically on 20 December 2005. With the power he first synchronized on 12 May 2006. The commercial power plant was opened on 17 May 2007. The second reactor was first synchronized on 14 May 2007 to the mains. He went on 16 August 2007 in the commercial operation. The cost of Phase 1 were 3.2 billion dollars.

The start of Phase 2 is planned in 2008. In this step are two more reactors are built from type WWER-1000/428 as AES -91. Atomstroiexport expected in a very short time, the signing of the framework agreement on the construction of the two blocks.

Whether and when the phase 3 will start, is not known. In this phase, four more are WWER-1000/428 be built in the form of the AES -91. If all reactors in operation, it would be a total of 8,480 megawatts of electric gross output is the most powerful nuclear power plant in the world.

Performance

Both blocks have VVER pressurized water reactors, which were supplied by Atomstroiexport. They cost a total of around $ 3.3 billion. Custom fit for China version of a Russian standard reactor type WWER-1000/392 is called WWER-1000/428. This reactor has been equipped with western control systems and received an additional protection against earthquakes. The neutron-physical properties were improved. On the two reactors is a two -year warranty. They were built as AES 91st

Disorders

On 26 August 2008 it was on the site of an explosion of a transformer of the first reactor block. Then, the reactor was shut down immediately. The fire was extinguished after five hours. It had been violated a person. The transformer was manufactured in Ukraine. The accident at the nuclear power plant was initially covered up and announced in September 2008.

Data of the reactor units

The world's first nuclear power plant of the type AES -91 has two blocks, but it should get up to six more:
