Tiapride ( N-2- (diethylaminoethyl )-5- methylsulfonyl -2- methoxybenzamide ) is a Antihyperkinetikum with a plasma half-life of 2.9 to 3.6 hours. It is one of the typical neuroleptics.
It is used in compulsive movement disorders:
- For the treatment of tic disorder in Tourette's syndrome,
- In dyskinesias eg chorea,
- And - although of a neuroleptic - at the damage caused by other antipsychotics, movement disorders, such as akathisia and dyskinesia ( eg, haloperidol -induced "shuffling ").
But apparently it has insufficient or no typical neuroleptic effects ( ie antipsychotic effects).
