Tiberius Plautius Silvanus Aelianus

Tiberius Plautius Silvanus Aelianus († probably 79 ) was a Roman senator of the 1st century.

From his name, it is apparent that Tiberius Plautius Silvanus Aelianus from birth Aelius Lamia was one, which was later adopted by a Plautius Silvanus. Probably he is born before 11 AD. Plautius ' alleged biological father, Lucius Aelius Lamia, consul of the year 3 AD was based in Formiae and probably belonged to a very wealthy family, whose members were represented in the Senate since Caesar and Plautius ' father probably the first time the consulate and perhaps patrician status obtained.

The family of his adoptive father, Marcus Plautius Silvanus well, praetor of the year 24 AD was a member, had already during the late Republic representatives in the Senate, since 2 BC belonged even to the consular gentes and came from Trebula Suffenas. 47/8 AD were the Plautii, which probably stood in a narrow connection to the imperial house, taken by Claudius in the patriciate.

Plautius ' full career is in his grave inscription from the Mausoleum of Plautii called in Tibur. Accordingly, he was:

  • Tresvir monetalis (about 35);
  • Quaestor of the Emperor Tiberius (about 36);
  • Legate of Legio V Alaudae (about 39 /40);
  • Praetor urbanus (42? );
  • Legat and comes of Emperor Claudius in the conquest of Britain (43/ 4);
  • Suffektkonsul (45);
  • Included among the patricians (47/ 48);
  • Proconsul of the province of Asia ( 55/6? );
  • Governor of the province of Moesia ( after 60? ).
  • Awarded by Vespasian with the Triumphalornamenten;
  • Governor of the province Tarraconensis ( Hispania Citerior )? ( 70/1-73 );
  • City prefect of Rome (72? );
  • Suffektkonsul the second mail (74).

After Plautius ' first consulate, his career seems to have slowed down a little. The reasons for this are not entirely clear. Probably because of his meritorious achievements in Moesia, where he successfully fought against the Sarmatians and Scythians, he was awarded the ornamenta late under Vespasian triumphalia something. Also under Vespasian in the year 70, he represented the Emperor in the function of the pontiff at the celebration of the work on the rebuilding of the Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus. In the subsequent Legatur is very likely to be a special mission, as the words hunc legatum in Hispaniam ad praefecturam urbis remissum suggest. Plautius probably died before the end of 79, since Vespasian is not listed with the epithet divus in his grave inscription. Lucius Aelius Lamia Plautius Perhaps Aelianus, the Suffektkonsul of the year 80, his son.
