Tibúrcio Spannocchi

Tiburzio Spannocchi (* 1543 in Siena, † 1606 in Madrid ) was an Italian architect and engineer in the field of military engineering was particularly active. Together with Filippo Terzi, he worked mainly in the area of the Iberian Peninsula.

Life

Spannocchi came from an aristocratic family of bankers. In 1577 he went with Marcantonio Colonna, who had been appointed Viceroy of Sicily, to Sicily, where he worked on the mapping of the forts and in 1578 the work Descripcion de las marinas de todo el Reino de Sicilia published. 1580 appointed him King Philip II of Spain to his court. In Spain, he worked at the fortress of Fuenterrabia and then to the fastenings of Cadiz, Gibraltar, A Coruña, Zaragoza, Jaca and Seville. Later he created a plan for the city of Donostia- San Sebastián. He died in 1606 in Madrid.
