Ticonderoga-class cruiser#Ships in class

The List of cruisers of the Ticonderoga - class guided missile cruiser contains all of the Ticonderoga class. A total of 27 units were built, of which 22 are still in service. The only operators of the class is the United States Navy.

Prior to the Ticonderoga - class cruisers there were seven other classes, which all but disappeared by mid -1990. They had all different areas of responsibility. At the moment there is no direct descendant class.

Construction

The first ship was ordered in September 1978. Almost two years later it was placed on Kiel and placed in 1983 after three years of construction in service. The last cruiser class was ordered in February 1988 laid the keel in 1991 and put into service in 1994.

A total of 27 units with the identifiers CG- 47 to CG -73 were built at two shipyards:

Between 2004 and 2006, the first five units (CG- 47 to CG -51) were decommissioned because they were still equipped with the older Doppelarmstarter Mark -26. Since no matching missile longer be produced, they were virtually defenseless and therefore disabled. The remaining 22 cruisers are equipped with the MK 41 Vertical Launching System.

It was planned to keep the other units until the mid- 2020s in service. Due to budget cuts, seven other cruisers of the class will be provided already in the financial years 2013 and 2014 out of service. The four cruisers, which should be asked is actually the end of March 2013 were out of service, but keep still.

The non decommissioned ships of the Ticonderoga - class should have a service life of 40 years, be so placed out of service 2026-2034. As of 2008, the remaining 22 modernized either in service units. However, given that as a replacement cruiser CG (X) project were canceled, no successor class is currently determined. Instead want to obtain modified destroyer of the current Arleigh Burke-class, which is intended to replace the cruisers the U.S. Navy.
