Ticuna people

The Ticuna, also Tikuna, Tukuna and in their own name Magüta called an indigenous people, which in Brazil ( Amazonas State ) and lives in the adjacent area of Peru and Colombia, and also its language.

According to statistical data from Brazil (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística ) 1998 live Ticuna 32,613 distributed in 25 indigenous territories on the Upper Solimões. In Peru, the census of 1993 only 1787 Ticuna has registered, but only data from 11 of the 18 existing municipalities were included. In reality, the population is estimated at around 5000-6000 ( Goulard, 1994). In Colombia, 6,585 Ticuna ( Arango y Sánchez, 1997) alive. They share in which you reside with other ethnic groups such as the Bora, Cocama, Witoto and Yagua.
