Tidaholm Municipality

Tidaholm is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland. It is located in the area between the two lakes Vänern and Vättern. The main town of the municipality is Tidaholm.

Geography

The community Tidaholm is bounded on the east by ridges Hökensås, a geological Horst, and to the west of the mesas Varvsberget, Gerumsberget and Plantaberget. In between there is an approximately 20 -km-wide level, which is drained by the river Tidan from south to north.

The area around the mesas is an ancient cultural landscape and has a share in Falbygden. In Dimbo, about 10 kilometers west of Tidaholm the largest burial ground in Västergötland is with etrwa 300 Iron Age graves. 10 km north of Dimbo is Kungslena, where a monument commemorates one of the great medieval battles between the royal families of Erik and Sverker that were crucial for the development of Sweden. A few kilometers south of another battle between the two adversaries Erik Knutsson and Sverker Karlsson took a few years instead of later, but this place is historically controversial.

Economy

Tidaholm is an industrial community, with the industry focused on the central site. Agriculture, there are mainly along the rivers and Tidan Ösan. Tourism plays a certain role in the area of ​​Hökensås.

Attractions

In parts of the municipality is located the cultural landscape Falbygden. Here also the manor Kavlås back to the 14th century.
