History

The origins of the Mk 24 Tigerfish go to the British torpedo project codenamed Ongar from 1959 back. 1970 saw one that included in the project technology could not be mastered by the Navy itself. So it was decided in 1972 to entrust the company Marconi with the continuation of the project. 1979, the first Mk 24 Tigerfish was provided by the fleet in service. Although there were still problems that they tried to solve the model I and model II, which never quite succeeded. Since the British Navy used mostly American models such as the Mark 48 Tigerfish became more and more withdrawn from service. In 1997, the last Tigerfish was fired.
