Tigermilk is the debut album by the Scottish band Belle and Sebastian. It was published in 1996.

Formation

The band's founder Stuart Murdoch attended from 1995 to 1996 at Stow College Glasgow a course for music production. During this course the publication of a self-produced disc on the school's own label Electric Honey is provided. Normally, this was limited to a single, but Murdoch had enough song material at hand, the quality of which convinced the course line that for the first time an entire album was produced. Among the students of the college Murdoch was looking for interested parties to form a band, chose ten pieces, and thus created the album Tigermilk.

It 1000 vinyl LPs were produced, of which about 600 distributed to friends, acquaintances and radio stations, the rest was gradually sold. Just by word of mouth spread the band's reputation, which was solely created as a college project and therefore had few public appearances. The unusual arrangements and imaginative texts on Tigermilk attracted more and more fans in its spell, as long since all plates were sold. So they had to be of three years with repeated dubbing the album on tape cartridges that were put into circulation in the circle, the original LPs were rare. As a premium price, the sum of £ 810 was paid for a signed Tigermilk LP at auction.

In 1999, Belle and Sebastian now two albums and four EPs were released, Jeepster appeared in the London Independent Label the long-awaited reissue of many of Tigermilk on CD and LP in the original design.
