Tigristunnel

The Tigristunnel is a 750 meter long cave located about 100 km from the Turkish city of Diyarbakir. Through this cave the Berkilin Çay together with the maggots flows, a source of the river Tigris. The end of the cave was therefore often referred to as Tigrisquelle, but actually enters the Berkilin Çay a little further west in Bingöl to the surface. In the environment of the Tigristunnels there are several archaeological monuments.

Best known from this are the reliefs of Tiglath- Pileser I and Shalmaneser III. , Which are mounted directly on the wall of Tigristunnels. The door hardware from Balawat make their production dar. Above the tunnel is a natural rock arch, which is connected by Urartian rock stairs with this. Above the other end of the tunnel there are other caves, the largest of which is Shalmaneser III immortalized. with a further relief and a poorly preserved wedge inscription.
