Tillamook Bay

The Tillamook Bay is a bay in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. state of Oregon. Its length is 10 km, its width about 3 km. To her, the boroughs of Garibaldi, Bay City and Tillamook.

History

The bay was discovered in August 1788 by Robert Gray ( 1755-1806 ). The settlement organized from 1848 Elbridge Trask ( 1815-1863 ). At the same time, the number of Indians in this region fell back: from 2,200 in 1805 to 200 in 1900 and 139 in 1970.

During the Second World War was at the Tillamook Bay, the U.S. Naval Station of the United States Navy. The facility was closed in 1948.
