Tim Dakin

Timothy John " Tim " Dakin ( born February 6, 1958 in Tanzania ) is a British Anglican theologian. He is since 2011 the Bishop of Winchester in the Church of England.

Life

Dakin was born in East Africa; where his parents worked as Christian missionaries in Tanzania and Kenya. He attended kindergarten in Nairobi; he grew up partly in eastern Africa, partly in various parishes in the UK.

He studied theology at the University College of Saint Mark and St John in Plymouth and at King's College, University of London, where he graduated in theology in the tray with the master. Further, he studied at Christ Church College, University of Oxford. He was ordained a deacon in 1993. In 1994 the ordination to the priesthood.

After studying Dakin returned to Africa. He was from 1993 to 2000 Rector ( Principal ) of the Carlile College in Nairobi, a college under the auspices of the Church Army, which entertained both a theological faculty as well as a business faculty ( Business School ). At the same time he was Vicar ( Assistant Curate ) on the All Saints ' Cathedral in Nairobi.

In 2000 he became Secretary General (General Secretary ) of the Church Mission Society ( CMS); the same time, he was a pastor (Associate Priest ) active in the parish of Ruscombe and Twyford, Berkshire, near Reading. Under Dakin's leadership, the Church Mission Society in 2008 officially recognized by the Church of England as a missionary society; still emerged missionary societies of the Church Mission Society in Africa and Asia.

Since 2001 he has Honorarkanoniker ( Honorary Canon Theologian ) at the Coventry Cathedral; his special interest therein shall be the mission theology. Since 2009 he is also Secretary General of the South American Mission Society.

Tim Dakin is an elected member of the General Synod of the Church of England; he upholds the diocese of Oxford.

In September 2011 he was appointed Bishop of Winchester was officially announced as the successor to Michael Scott - Joynt.

On January 25, 2012 Dakin was officially consecrated in St Paul 's Cathedral in London by Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury a bishop. On April 21, 2012, he is introduced with a solemn Mass at the Cathedral of Winchester in his office.

Membership in the House of Lords

Dakin heard since 2012 as minister Lord the House of Lords. As Bishop of Winchester Dakin is one of the Lords Spiritual, the constitutionally automatically hold a seat in the House of Lords. He thus also in the House of Lords in the footsteps of Michael Scott - Joynt. The House of Lords leads him since March 7, 2012 as an official member.

Private

Dakin is married to Sally Dakin. His wife is a midwife and also ordained pastor. The marriage had two children: a daughter (Anna ) and a son (Johnny ). His personal interests include reading, walking, movies and dealing with non-Western beliefs. His vacations he enjoys spending time with his family on a farm in Kenya.
