Tim de Cler

Tim de Cler ( born November 8, 1978 in Leiden) is a Dutch football player.

In his home city of Leiden in the club Lugdunum Tim de Cler was discovered by scouts of Ajax Amsterdam and brought in the Ajax youth. There he went through the youth teams, until it was used in 1997/98 for the first time in the first team in the Eredivisie. That same year, Ajax became champion. In the coming years, which seemed not satisfactory for the Dutch series champion, he was a regular in the defense used.

When he calculated the championship in 2002 under coach Ronald Koeman, however, was only second choice, he moved to AZ Alkmaar. There he was immediately set a regular in the defense and was instrumental in the rise of the association, which led in 2006 to the vice - championship.

In the 2004/05 season he was also voted in the election for Dutch Footballer of the Year behind Dirk Kuyt and Phillip Cocu at No. 3. On 17 August 2005 he was then employed for the first time in the national team. Tim de Cler belonged with Joris Mathijsen and Kew Jaliens to Alkmaar defensive trio in the squad of the Netherlands for the World Cup 2006; also at the European Championships in 2008 he was in the squad of Oranje and was used in the game against Romania.

In June 2007 he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam. There he played four more years in the Eredivisie, before joining AEK Larnaca to expiry of his contract for season 2011/12 to Cyprus. On the Mediterranean island he played again together with his teammate Kevin Hofland Rotterdam.
