Tim Hagans

Tim Hagans ( born August 19, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio) is an American jazz trumpeter.

Life and work

Hagans was a student of Kermit Simmons and studied at Bowling Green State University. In 1974, he broke off his studies to become a member of Stan Kenton's band, with whom he worked until 1977. In this year he joined Woody Herman's band, but was already after six weeks to Sweden, where he lived until 1981 and, inter alia, played with Sahib Shihab, Ernie Wilkins ' Almost Big Band, the Danish Radio Orchestra, Thad Jones and Dexter Gordon.

After his return to the United States, he taught at the University of Cincinnati and from 1984 to 1986 at the Berklee College of Music. He then settled in New York and worked here with Joe Lovano and Fred Hersch, later with Bob Belden, Rick Margitza, John Hart, the Yellowjackets, the big bands of Bob Mintzer and Maria Schneider and the Gil Evans Orchestra. After the debut album in 1983 Hagans took in the 1990s on several albums as a leader for Blue Note Records. After the two publications Animation - Imagination and Re - Animation: Live in Montreal with Bob Belden, who were influenced by hip-hop, drum and bass and psychedelic music, it broke with Blue Note Records. As of 1996, Hagans spent as music director of the Norrbotten Big Band several weeks per year in Luleå in northern Sweden.
