Tim O'Brien (musician)

Tim O'Brien ( born March 16, 1954 in Wheeling (West Virginia)) is an American bluegrass and country musician. Tim O'Brien plays mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, Mando cello and sings. To date, he has published more than ten studio albums.

Life

O'Brien grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia, and was musically influenced by traditional country music, bluegrass and the folk revival of the 1960s. While his sister Mollie ( released her debut album in 1987 ) Piano learned O'Brien taught himself guitar and banjo when, where later the fiddle and mandolin followed. After a year on a college, he moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he first joined the Ophelia Swing Band. In 1978 he founded with Charles Sawtelle on guitar, Nick Forster on bass and Peter Wernick on banjo bluegrass band " Hot Rize ". This group until 1990 and took in that time some critically acclaimed albums for the label Flying Fish and Sugar Hill on. The first of the International Bluegrass Music Association ( IBMA ) Entertainer of the Year award granted in 1990 went to "Hot Rize ".

In 1996, O'Brien to Nashville, Tennessee. At that time he had already established itself as a solo artist and released several albums.
