Tim Scott

Timothy Eugene " Tim " Scott ( born September 19, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina) is an American politician. From 2011 to 2013 he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives. January 2, 2013, is a member of the U.S. Senate.

Career

Tim Scott visited in 1983 and 1984, the Presbyterian College in Clinton. Then he studied until 1988 at the Charleston Southern University, among others, the subject political science. He then became owner of an insurance company; also was and he has worked as a financial advisor. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. Between 1995 and 2008 he was a member of the District Council in Charleston County, of which he became Chairman in 2007. In 1996, he ran unsuccessfully for the Senate of South Carolina. In the years 2009 and 2010 he was a member of the House of Representatives of his State. He was after more than 100 years, the first African-American Republican who was elected in South Carolina in this body.

In the congressional elections of 2010, Scott was the first electoral district of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of not more candidates Henry E. Brown on January 3, 2011. He is the first African American Congressman of the Republican Party of South Carolina since 1901. Upon his election, he was supported by parts of the Tea Party movement. In Congress, he is a member of the Rules Committee and a subcommittee. In the congressional elections in 2012, he sat down with 62:35 percent of the vote against Democrat by Bobbie Rose. Following the resignation of Senator Jim DeMint on 17 December 2012 Scott was determined by Governor Nikki Haley to DeMint's successor. On January 2, 2013, was sworn in as a senator from South Carolina. Scott has held the office until the first election in November 2014. He is the first African-American senator from the Republican ranks since Edward Brooke, whose term ended in 1979, and the only African-American senator in the 113th Congress.

Scott is still owner of an insurance agency and partner of Pathway Real Estate Group, LLC.
