Timavo

The Timavo at its northern origin

Geography

It rises below the area between Monfalcone and Duino village of San Giovanni al Timavo of three large karst springs and flows into a bay of the Gulf of Trieste, after he has united after the half-way with the Grand Locavez. With 2 km length of the Timavo is considered one of the shortest rivers in the world ( the shortest river in the world is the Roe River in Great Falls, Montana (USA ) with a length of 61 meters ). History

S. Giovanni al Timavo was in Roman times a famous place. Here was formerly the harbor " lacus Timavi ". The Roman poet Virgil describe the Timavo. This is the place where the Argonauts Jason and the companions of Aeneas should have landed on their flight from Troy.
