Timber hitch

The carpenter node is used for pulling long workpieces, such as timbers, boards and logs.

Application

Under load, the node moves in and holds the load through the now acting rope friction. The node stops on train, it dissolves when the load is stored. Due to the large angle between the rope and twisted loop, the tensile strength of the rope is (ie, the node strength ) is significantly reduced.

The security and stability is guaranteed by half a beat with extra-long objects. This is a piece from the node attached to the tensile direction.

Cable-stayed bridge

In the construction of cable-stayed bridges he formerly served for fixing the supporting cable on the tree. Today, the suspension rope is wrapped several times due to better tensile strength for attachment around the tree and then secured.

Construction

On the construction of carpenters and bars are mounted below with the carpenter nodes and backed up with a half hitch ( noseband ). Thus, they can be pulled up vertically with a rope.

Musical Instruments

In classical guitar Zimmermann beat is (better known as guitar nodes) used to attach the strings on the tailpiece.

Fire department

In the fire service it is for example mounted on the suction line strainer and called Zimmermann Zimmermann shock or down.

Archery

In traditional archery bowstring is often fixed by the type of unilateral Flemish Splice with the so-called bowyers knot at the end of the arc. It is a carpenter nodes.

Tie

The rope is wrapped around the tree or the workpiece. The loose end of the rope is passed around the fixed end and then more times around itself.

Alternatives

  • To attach the supporting cable of a cable-stayed bridge on the tree, the rope is better wrapped several times around the tree and then secured.
  • In shipping, the mooring line is attached to the Webeleinenstek at the stake, usually secured with two half hitches.
