Timo Jutila

Timo Juhani Jutila ( born December 24, 1963 in Tampere ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played from 1980 to 1999 among others for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and Tappara Tampere of the SM - liiga.

Career

Timo Jutila began his career as a hockey player in 1980 in his hometown at Tappara Tampere, for which he worked four years in the SM- liiga active. During this time he was with his team in 1982 and 1984 Finnish Champion and 1981 runner-up. He also reached the second place in the 1980 Tampere European Cup and was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1982 in the fourth round as the 68th overall player of the Buffalo Sabres. In the 1984/85 season the defender completed ten games for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League, where he scored six points scorer, including a goal. However, the majority of the playing time he spent at their farm team, the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. After only one year Jutila 1985 returned to his Finnish homeland Tappara Tampere, with which he was master each in the following two years. Prior to the 1988/89 season Jutila ventured a second time to move abroad. A total of four years he was for Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien active before it a third time returned to Tappara 1992. After four more seasons with Tappara Jutila signed for the 1996/97 season a contract with SC Bern, with whom he was Swiss champion. On the success was followed by another engagement in Tappara Tampere. There, where he had 19 years earlier started with ice hockey, he finished his career in 1999.

Due to his achievements Timo Jutila was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2003. In addition, Tappara Tampere, where he spent most of his career, "his" jersey number 7 is no longer awarded in his honor.

Internationally

For Finland Jutila participated in the U20 Junior World Championships 1981, 1982 and 1983, as well as the A- World Championships 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 in part. In addition, he was in the squad Finland at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, in Albertville in 1992 and 1994 in Lillehammer.
