Timor (car)

Timor Putra Nasional was Indonesia 's largest automobile manufacturer and existed 1991 to 2008. The company was a state-owned company with headquarters in the capital, Jakarta.

History

As in the past, major car brands have disappeared from Indonesia, the country's government pursued the establishment of its own car brand. Specialized professionals but it has not been in Indonesia before. Due to this, the government continued with the South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors in association and asked for an offer of cooperation.

Kia offered to the supply of production equipment, engines, technical accessories and body parts, as well as the installation of new production and the supply of skilled labor for maintenance.

A short time later, the Indonesian government agreed to the offer and founded Timor Putra Nasional 1991. The name stands for Timor Teknologi Industri mobile Rakyat. In 1992 the factory was officially opened.

Since 1995, Timor- vehicles will be delivered to South Korea. Due to the low price, the brand has also been successful in North Korea and has established its own dealer network.

1998, the production of the recent models was initially adjusted in order to replace them with the S2 and M3 models. Due to various difficulties has been drained from this project and started production of the original models again.

Middle of 2006 plunged the country into an economic crisis. This affects mainly the trade and industry sector. In relation to this, many companies shifted their production to Malaysia and the Philippines. The state-owned enterprises was finally ended by continually declining sales and rising expenditure for the company in January 2008 as a failed "Project" by the government.

Sedan Timor S 515 OHC

The body of the S 515 is from the mid-size sedan Kia Sephia. The engine is 1500 cm ³, and has in the motorized version of a weaker power of 54 HP, which enables a maximum speed of 156 km / h. The more powerful engine develops 82 hp and a top speed of 171 km / h

Sedan Timor S 515i DOHC

The S 515i is the top version of the series. Its engine also has 1.5 liter engine but has a double injection and double overhead camshafts. Sedan Timor (SL / SW) 516i

The 516i is provided with the body of the Optra. This model is available as a sedan (SL ) and station wagon (SW). The body of the two models are 4.61 m long, and thus a 21 cm longer than that of the S -515 models. The 516i variants are equipped with a 120 hp engine. Timor Sedan Limited Edition

Concept cars of 1998

Timor S2

In 1998, Timor at the Shanghai Motor Show its first concept car. It was a modern, spacious small car called Timor S2. The design of the small car was based very much on the Mercedes- Benz A-Class. The plan was to bring the S2 at the latest by 1999 for series production. Due to the high material prices, the series production was quickly discarded.

Timor M3 maleo

The Timor M3 maleo was a modern sports coupe. He should replace the outdated sports car sedan. The design of the M3 was based on the Saturn vehicles from the USA.
