Timur and His Squad

Timur and his squad ( original Russian title Тимур и его команда ) is the most famous novel by the Russian- Soviet writer Arkady Gaidar ( 1904-1941 ). The novel was published in 1940. The partly autobiographical work was his greatest success. In the GDR, the book belonged to reading in the classroom and has been read by many vintages.

A punk band from Weimar, which existed from 1986-1992, named after the book.

Content

The story of the book is located in a Soviet village. The 14 -year-old Timur Garayev takes care of himself as the leader of an auxiliary troops to the widows or relatives of soldiers at the front. The work is not easy because there is a group in town that always acts against Timur and his friends. When the 13 -year-old Zhenya vacation makes in Timur's hometown, she brings the squad through each strong and simultaneously acquires many new friends.

Based on the book title a badge called Timurtrupp was awarded to Young Pioneers helpful in some places the GDR, who distinguished themselves in the field of Timurhilfe. Even in stories around Alfons Zitterbacke comes before the Timurtrupp.

The first and last name Timur Garajews are not Russian, but of Tatar origin.
