Tina Birbili

Tina Birbili (Greek Τίνα Μπιρμπίλη, born 1969 in Athens ) is a Greek environmental scientist and politician (PASOK ). From 7 October 2009 to 17 June 2011, she was Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change in the government of George Papandreou.

She studied physics at the University of Athens and earned at Imperial College London, a master's degree in environmental technology before finishing her physics studies with a doctorate. She coordinated and managed projects of the European Union in the field of environment and sustainable development. She co-authored a book " build cities for cyclists "

In the Municipality of Athens, she worked under Mayor Dimitris Avramopoulos. However, in recent years it belonged to the circle of the closest collaborators of Giorgos Andrea Papandreou, who convened the relatively unknown politician after his victory in the parliamentary elections of 2009 as the youngest member of his cabinet at the head of the newly created Ministry of the Environment.

In a cabinet reshuffle in June 2011 Birbili resigned from the Cabinet. She had plans opposes to restructure the budget to legalize particular the planned privatization of the electricity company DEI and the projects that many illegal construction against payment of fines.

Tina Birbili is a single mother of a son.
