Tino Pietrogiovanna

Tino Pietrogiovanna (* 1950 in Santa Caterina ) is an Italian former Alpine skier and later Italian Skinationaltrainer.

Biography

Pietrogiovanna was a member of the Italian national ski team in the first half of the 1970s. He went in the World Cup in the technical disciplines at the start. The first points in a World Cup race he won on December 17, 1972 as the sixth of the slalom in the domestic Madonna di Campiglio. Four months later he was standing in the slalom of Heavenly Valley in third place for the first time on the podium. A second placement on the podium he succeeded on December 18, 1974 in the giant slalom of the 3 - Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio.

His name is connected with the so-called Valanga Azzurra, as in the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden on January 7, 1974 for the only time in the history of the World Cup five Italian skiers occupied the first places. Participation in World Championships were denied him because of the strong competition in their own team. At the end of his active career ten finishes were in the top ten.

After his resignation, he was skiing coach. From 1978 to 1982 he coached the men's team at the Comitato Alpi Centrali. From 1982 to 1989 he was a slalom and giant slalom coach of the Italian national ski team of men and led, among others, Alberto Tomba at the top. Then he supervised between 1989 and 1999 Deborah Compagnoni (until 1994 part-time). From 1999 to 2005 he was Technical Director of the Italian national ski team of women.
