Criticism

The index, as well as his educational method are controversial, then the ranking would already with the choice slightly different keywords move by orders of magnitude, and it is in the search results even after document type ( eg individual Question of a beginner or complex compendium answered many questions ) distinction, moreover, only the first 100 hits were checked for plausibility and calculates a correction factor for the entire search result therefrom. The creator of the rankings even admits that some of the massive collapse of Java in 2004 was probably due to a purge of the Google search index to spam messages and that the method is " not scientific " is. On the other hand, it is recognized that this ranking is intrinsically difficult.

The results of a similar index, the index RedMonk programming languages differ in part considerably from the results of the TIOBE index.
