Tiopronin is a drug selected from the group of the chelating agent in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning - is used - in particular mercury, copper, iron, zinc, and cadmium 210Polonium. The effect is due to the SH group in the molecule which absorbs heavy metals via a chelate complex, which one renal elimination is possible. There is little clinical experience with tiopronin in acute heavy metal poisoning. Other areas of application are the treatment of radiation injury, Wilson's disease, haemosiderosis, acute and chronic hepatitis, fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, and the morbidly increased excretion of cystine by the kidney ( cystinuria ) and any corresponding formation of cystine stones in the kidney ( nephrolithiasis ) dar.
