Titta Ruffo

Titta Ruffo ( June 9, 1877 in Pisa, † July 5, 1953 in Florence), Ruffo Titta Cafiero, actually, was an Italian opera singer (baritone ). According Goruma it will be counted together with Enrico Caruso and Rosa Ponselle among the top ten " singing miracles" of all time.

Life

Ruffo first worked in his father's forge. When he was certified at the age of eighteen, he had a beautiful voice, he went to Rome and sang before the famous singing teacher Venceslao Persichini. This took him as a disciple of the renowned Italian Music Academy Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

His debut at the Teatro Costanzi experienced Ruffo 1898 in Rome at the opera Lohengrin. He gave numerous guest appearances on both stages of Italy, as well as in South America and Russia. In 1903 he sang at Covent Garden in London for the duration of an entire season. In 1922 he sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Ruffo sang all the classic roles such as Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Don Carlo in Ernani or Tonio in Pagliacci. After standing 37 years on the opera stage, he finished his career in 1935. As an opponent of the Mussolini regime, he was ostracized at that time, his socialist brother was murdered by the fascists. From Ruffo still exist old recordings that are re-laid in part as a CD.
