Tjörn Municipality

Tjörn is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Bohuslän. The main town of the municipality is Skärhamn.

Geography

The municipality includes the island Tjörn same name, as well as a number of smaller islands.

Economy

To date, the economy of Tjörn is dominated by fish and from boat building. The largest employers are the shipyards B & N, Djupviks varv and Rönnviks varv. Vallhamn is Sweden's largest import port for cars.

Tourism is growing today and is becoming one of the most important sectors of the economy; during the summer months the population swells to twice because of the number of tourists. Many residents commute to Gothenburg to work there.

Attractions

In the capital Skärhamn the Nordiska is Akvarellmuseet, an art museum. Other attractions include the churches, for example, the Valla kyrka.
