Tocha is a comune ( Freguesia ) and small town ( Vila ) in Portugal with 3977 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011). Nationally known are the beaches in Praia da Tocha.
History
In 1140 Portugal's first king, D. Afonso Henriques Tocha gave to the monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra. Once it belonged to the community Cadima ( circle Cantanhede ) Tocha in 1907 was the first time where an independent municipality, and on 9 July 1985 in the rank of Vila.
Traffic
Tocha lies on the A 17, which connects Marinha Grande with Aveiro. The national road N 109 (IC 1) from Leiria to Vila Nova de Gaia crosses the village in north-south direction.

Sports
In the town the football club founded in 1953, is União Desportiva da Tocha home. The football field of the community, was the venue for the qualifying round Group 7 World Cup 2011 Women, where the Portuguese national football team of women on 31 March 2010 with their highest 7-0 qualifying win against Armenia won so far.
